My wife and I stayed in the Baobab Suite for 2 nights in Dec 2016. We learned that the hotel is under new management. Here is what we recommend the new manager does to take the experience from good to great.

The pillows were only about 3 inches thick so a side sleeper has to stack two pillows to be comfortable. There were no other pillows to choose from, so placing a few different pillows in the closet will help. The sheets were a cheap cotton/poly blend. A nice hotel will have high quality sheets.

Quaint, relaxing, close to everything. Owners were very nice. Hope to stay again in April.

The rates were excellent, the room 2 jasmine was quaint and very well stocked. Only stayed for one night but had tons of towels, coffee and many supplies I wasn't expecting. (An assortment of cups, cork screw, an iron and ironing board with a gallon of distiller water). The little seating area was great! The room was clean and welcoming. Staying there was a breeze! So easy to checkin/checkout! Just a heads up the pizza place next door that you see on Google maps street view has moved but you can walk to so many restaurants and the pizza place isn't too far away. The location was excellent, just one small block from everything but still very quiet. Would be thrilled to stay there again!

There appears to be no Manager's office on site, so all contact was done over the phone. Not normally a big deal, but after-hours calls for assistance went unanswered.

Great place to take your significant other.

The interior walls in the building seem to be uninsulated so noise was transmitted from room to room as you would expect in a typical old house. Even normal conversation and TV volume was evident. This would be a more difficult condition to correct, though.

There is a laundry room with an ice machine in the building, but the door was locked and the room key did not open it. This would be an easy fix for the new manager.

This is a great place to stay in Mt. Dora. It is perfectly located within walking distance to everything. The rooms are clean and the property is quiet. There is no big breakfast spread, so if you are looking for that stay elsewhere. There are plenty of places to get breakfast, even right next door. We will definitely stay here again.

I'd give the new owner some time to make adjustments and try then.

Of primary importance at a hotel is the bed. This bed's mattress was unforgivingly firm, so putting a memory foam or pillow topper on the bed would make a big difference. We were both uncomfortable on the bed and didn't sleep well.

The bathroom was not dirty, but was rather run down. Bubbling paint and other evidence of moisture damage was unsightly. There is no toilet paper holder in the room, so a roll was just sitting on the back of the toilet for use. A couple days worth of light remodeling will correct this area.

The HVAC system was only partially functional in that the fan never shut off no matter what temperature or system setting the remote control was set at. We eventually turned the whole unit off for the night to stop the air from blowing directly at the bed.
